- Play advanced situational games
- Be a shifter not a shitter
1. Find AT LEAST 1 Advanced Lab Partner For Madden 24
There’s always practice mode but it’s missing…
👉A user defender
👉Live feedback or suggestions to improve
The person I always labbed with was top player ‘Blocky’ and after every game I’d ask:
What could I of done/called more of AND less of?
And you’re probably thinking… how did you even find someone to lab with in the 1st place?
After EVERY game I played vs. someone good – I’d message them complementing them on their game then asking if they wanted to join a crew.
Do this 100 times and it’s almost impossible for you NOT to find someone good to practice with.
THEN…
2. Play Advanced Situational Games
We’d prepare by playing:
👉Redzone only games
👉5 out only
👉Offense/Defense only
Essentially we’d target specific areas of our game we needed improvement in like redzone
Or if 1 of us needed to be better on D vs. a specific form like Bunch but…
The other wanted to work on offense…
We’d put ALL of our attention into 1 side of the ball in that 1 game.
Then just punt when the other got on O/D
Also wayyy too many are overly confident in their pass pro therefore underthink combos to quickly attack blitzes
Thinking worst-case scenario..
Id always play AT least one 5 out only game where I can’t set up any pass pro
As there’ll ALWAYS be games where blitzes scream randomly
Or someone figures out a way around your pass pro
Be just as confident in your blitz beating combos as your pass protection.
3. Be An Advanced Shifter Not A Shitter
What YOU like doesn’t matter
What you like should be based on what your opponent doesn’t like.
Shift to the style of play that counters your opponent’s weaknesses
Bad stylistic matchups stem from:
👉Stupidity
👉Stubbornness
👉Skill deficiencies
From an offensive POV ask yourself
- Are they making you work (laying back in ~3 looks hoping you make a mistake)?
- Making you think (playing to completely bag you)?
- A lost soul all together?
If #1 or 3 I’ll call 2-3 plays max until they proof they can stop it
If #2..
I’ll be far more open to freestyling new plays based on spaces/players I anticipate them to leave open
If it’s a known good defensive player you’re facing with this style too
You need to be very conscious of your own playcalling patterns to avoid predictable calls on big downs.

Yeah… the guy was pretty good. I didn’t set the record for my most points lost by or anything.
I was so puzzled. I just had to speak to this guy. I didn’t know it was possible for someone to be that good.
I wanted to be that good.
I wanted to have those 45 minutes of fame where the game starts and every exterior thought unrelated to Madden vanished like a ghost.
I wanted to have those experiences where for those 45 minutes, I am transported to a seemingly different dimension where I am just untouchable.

Why Listening To Random Youtubers And Sites Is Handicapping Your Madden Game
Luckily, Athletic accepted my party invite so we could chat.
What he told me overrode all 4 years of previous knowledge that I accumulated from all my favorite Madden Youtubers.
I realized everything I had ever learned from any Madden Youtuber was as useless as Shaquille O’Neal at the free throw line.

Anyways, he told me there was an entire undercover world of competitive players.
So more guys like him with the advanced superhuman reads, playcalls, and adjustments.
But what was most alarming, none of those competitive players he mentioned do Youtube so I had no one credible to learn from.
Even worse, the few competitive players I later found were teaching the game the same damn way everyone on Youtube did.
The difference was the competitive players knew that the money plays was not their secret to success…
However the last thing they wanted to do was reveal their strategic fundamental secrets to the public.
They knew it was the fundamentals separating them from the rest of the world.
